Process:Your mission is to gain as much information about Shakespeare's Globe Theater as possible. Everything you need to complete your research quest can be accessed from the Resource provided below.  Subtopics:I. History of the Globe Theater: a) When and where was the original Globe theater built and where did the timbers to

 

1) You will gather information for each subtopic by finding answers for the provided guided focus questions or include information you feel that is important.  Gather a minimum of 8 facts per subtopic.

2) You will use the Trash-n-Treasure notetaking data sheets to keep track of your information.

      l) What plays of Shakespeare were performed at the Globe?  How long did they run?

II. Description and Parts of the Globe Theater: a) Give a brief description of the Globe Theater.b) Identify parts of the Globe:  The Yard, Middle Gallery, The Shadow,

    

    

            The "Hell," The Stage.

       c) How many people could the Globe Theatre seat during Shakespeare's time?

       d) What did the flag flying above the theater mean?  Why did they use flags to

           advertise?

       e) What did the different color flags represent?

       f) What was the theater's motto and what does it mean?

III. Audience and Actors: a) Why were plays important to the residents of London during Shakespeare's time?b) Who were the "Groundlings and why were they known by that name?

    

    

        c) How much did the "Groundlings" pay to attend a performance?  What

           would that be equivalent to in today's currency?

       d) Where would a common street individual sit while watching a performance?

           A wealthy person?

       e) What did it cost to attend a play?  Who went to see plays?

       f) Who went to see plays?  Describe the audience who attended the plays.  

       g) What was it like to attend the theater during Shakespeare's time?  What problems did the

           audience have to beware of when attending a play?

       h) What time of day did performances take place and why?  How was the public notified

           about performances?

       i) Who played the female roles and why? 

       j) What type of scenery and props were used?  What were the costumes like?

      

IV. The New Globe Theater: a) When was the foundation of the original Globe theater discovered?b) Who was Sam Wanamaker?
